Every Empire

Hollow wood and stone And empty canvas all his own Gentle hands, and worn From this masterpiece was born But I need a hammer to repair these walls Or even better: a wrecking ball To sand it down, make it smooth He placed his hands under the wood And he carves it out with skill And fashions life to suit his will But I need a hammer to repair these walls Or even better: a wrecking ball I need this now More than anything But I need your tools to repair these walls You could be my hammer, a wrecking ball

Is there a place for my kind? Close enough to hide All these lines that I've crossed An all these lives I've lost All of your wickedness will be burned up in the Son You shouldn't speak those words, you have no idea what I've done, what I've done So I'll now take my place With all the others damned Now relieved of all love It fits me like a glove All of your wretchedness will burn up under the Son How can you speak those words when you know now what I've done, what I've done? Maybe once, I could stay Would you look the other way? Would you raise me from the dead? Or have I been so bad? All of your diligence will not help you when I come Help me embrace these words: it don't matter what I've done, what I've done All of your innocence will unite us when I come And there is redemption here when you taste now what I've done, What I've done

Youth 06:01
So much...so much is made of youth But in death we are met with a fountain of truth We build up our dreams to the edges of time Never dreaming that our time has an end of the line And faced with dying we strain to look further Past these boundaries to find a maker Truth has no victim It shares it's motives freely Who will speak to my children? My love is gonna teach them of You We have broken every promise we ever tried to make Devastated by deceptions we were all to quick to take We grow weary of the bickering voices within Ever changing like the shadows are the hearts of men As the love of many grows cold and lifeless Who if any was made in your likeness? Two curves have formed at the corners of my mouth Full of vengeance and impatience but my fists are full of doubt A love divided between wars and havens Has bruised my face now clean and shaven And faced with dying we strain to look further Past these boundaries to find a maker (2x)

For the dear old Flag I die, Said the wounded drummer boy; Mother, press your lips to mine; O, they bring me peace and joy! 'Tis the last time on earth I shall ever see your face Mother take me to your heart, Let me die in your embrace. For the dear old Flag I die, Mother, dry your weeping eye; For the honor of our land And the dear old Flag I die. Do not mourn, my mother, dear, Every pang will soon be o'er; For I hear the angel band Calling from their starry shore; Now I see their banners wave In the light of perfect day, though 'tis hard to part with you, Yet I would not wish to stay. For the dear old Flag I die, Mother, dry your weeping eye; For the honor of our land And the dear old Flag I die. Farewell mother, Death's cold hand Weighs upon my spirit now, And I feel his blighting breath Fan my pallid cheek and brow. Closer! closer! to your heart, Let me feel that you are by, While my sight is growing dim, For the dear old Flag I die.

about

After my band dissolved in 2011 I retreated to a recording studio in an old church in Mankato, with my sister Celeste, to record 4 songs we'd been working on for awhile.
